The Dos and Don'ts of Lip Liner

Lip liner is probably one of my favorite beauty products. You absolutely HAVE to use it correctly though, or you will just end up committing a major faux paux.

Benefits of lip liner:
1) added volume
2)added definition
3)longer lasting color

You need to be extremely meticulous when applying lip liner if you want to apply it correctly.

My top two tips are:
A) Match the shade with your lipstick
B) Always focus on outlining, and not filling

A) Match the shade with your lipstick:
Believe it or not, a fad for a while was to use different colors of lipsticks and lip liners. This look was just too busy and contrasting, inevitably killing the fad very quickly. Here's the bottom line: Make sure the color of your lipstick and lip liner is as similar as possible.

B) Always focus on outlining, and not filling:
If you are in a rush to make it to work/school on time, I advise you don't use lip liner at all. Properly applied lip liner takes a bit of time. You always need to apply it with a light hand, making a think and precise line that follows the shape of your lips as closely as possible. After your lip liner is precise, you need to put on your lipstick/gloss and make sure you blend blend BLEND! This seems to be the number one beauty rule for every type of make up. Blended lips make you look professional and put together. Also, when your lipstick eventually begins to fade (see my other post for tips to prolong the color), your lip liner will be all that is left when it was blended correctly.
